Tell Tale Signs You Have Spiders

While spiders do have their perks (they reduce the population of other pests in and around your property like flies and mosquitoes), their drawbacks far outweigh their benefits – especially when they make their way into your home in droves. It’s true that most spiders are harmless, but many can bite and cause reactions such as rashes, sores, body aches and even fevers.

If you spot any of the following signs of spider infestation, call for pest control in Phoenix AZ immediately.

1. Webs

Aside from spotting the spiders themselves, this is the most common way of knowing you have spiders in your home. An abundance of webs, some ornate and some fairly plain, can signal an infestation.

2. Egg Sacs

Spiders tend to lay hundreds of eggs at one time, and they’re all wrapped within a silk ball. If egg sacs are present in your home, they will eventually hatch, resulting in hundreds more spiders on the premises. Then, it’s only a matter of time before those babies breed, leading to more spiders, and so on and so on.

3. Excessive Amount of Flying Insects

If you’ve been spotting more flies, mosquitoes, moths and other flying insects than usual, it’s likely that they are drawing the attention of spiders. That’s because spiders love to eat these insects. You may see many webs near exterior and interior lights, which lure in other insects so they can be trapped. Dinner time for the spider!

4. Molts

Did you know that spiders molt just like snakes do? That’s because they have exoskeletons that must shed when they grow. You may spot molts in webs on your porch or in a corner of your garage.

5. Unexplained Bites

Small spiders do possess fangs, but they’re incapable of piercing skin. But that doesn’t mean larger species can’t bite humans when they are disturbed. You may not even know you’re disturbing them, as some bites occur when humans step on them by accident or put their foot in a shoe (common hiding spot for spiders). Sometimes they happen in your sleep. If you have unexplained bites, a spider could be to blame.

6. Presence of Spiders

This is obviously the most telling sign you have an infestation. If you actually see a lot of live or dead spiders, this is your signal to call a pest control company in Mesa. Don’t try to diagnose which type of spiders you have, as it can be tough to tell between types. Each one will require a different treatment and approach. That’s why you need the assistance of a pest control expert and professional inspection.

Common types found in the Phoenix area include:

  • Black widow
  • Brown recluse
  • Wolf spider
  • Jumping spider
  • Black and yellow garden spider
  • Tarantula
  • >Giant crab spider
